The smörgåstårta consists of 3 different creams on the inside and one on the outside. For the first cream, cut the salmon into cubes and mix with cottage cheese and mustard. Then season with salt and pepper. For the cheese cream, mix 100g cream cheese, 200g sour cream and the grated cheddar and season with salt and pepper. Then mash the avocados, press a clove of garlic and chop half the spring onion and mix with 200g sour cream. Flavour with salt and pepper. Finally, mix 400g cream cheese and 100g natural yoghurt for the outer cream.

Bread cake as an alternative to cream cake: the perfect party dish

Smörgåstårta is a favourite at any party! The fact that you can vary the fillings freely means that the Swedish sandwich cake can be perfectly adapted to different preferences and diets. If you want to make the cake vegetarian, for example, you can use a beetroot or cucumber cream.

Incidentally, smörgåstårta loosely translates as sandwich cake. However, it is also often referred to as Scandinavian bread cake. The Swedish version often contains fish such as salmon or tuna. Dill is a particularly good accompaniment. Crab is also a good decoration or filling.

Decoration ideas for your smörgåstårta

Not sure how to decorate your Smörgåstårta? You can find some inspiration here. Vegetables that are particularly popular are cucumber and tomato slices. Herbs such as dill or parsley are also very effective on the outer cream, especially when finely chopped.

If you want to make the smörgåstårta even richer by decorating it, then hard-boiled and sliced eggs are recommended. Ham and cheese are possible as well. To give your sandwich cake a fruity flavour, you can combine the whole thing with lemon slices.
