- •1 Egg
Now slice the vanilla pod lengthwise and carefully scrape out the seeds with a knife (alternatively, you can also use 2 teaspoons of vanilla paste or 1 sachet of bourbon vanilla sugar). Add the vanilla pulp, a pinch of salt and the egg to the butter and sugar mixture. Stir in briefly.

Gradually add the flour and mix until you have a smooth dough. Pour the dough into a piping bag and pipe e.g. curls, pretzels, dots onto the baking trays. Pastry presses with different attachments also work particularly well. Alternatively, roll out the dough and cut out circles or rectangles.

Place the baking trays in the oven one after the other and bake for approx. 12 to 13 minutes until the cookies are golden brown around the edges. Leave the finished cookies to cool completely and then store in a cookie tin.

Buy Danish butter biscuits
Where else can you buy butter biscuits if you’re not travelling to Denmark?
The manufacturer “Royal Dansk “, among others, has been producing the traditional biscuits in Helsingør, Denmark, since 1966. If you search online, you can find them on Amazon, among other places. But of course they are especially delicious when they are fresh out of the oven.
The best thing about the butter cookies and sprinkles is that they take you back to either your childhood or your holiday in Denmark. Incidentally, the light vanilla flavour makes the biscuits very similar to English shortbread.
