Seeing the magical Northern Lights right through the ceiling of your room. In Finnish Lapland, this is exactly what you can do at one of the glass igloo hotels. Here, you can gaze at the starry sky through a glass dome and, with a bit of luck, marvel at the Northern Lights right from the comfort of your warm bed.

As the name suggests, these hotels are unique in that you can spend the night in a private glass igloo. The bed is located under a glass dome, offering a direct view of the night sky. Here is a list of the most beautiful glass igloo hotels in Finland.

Cosy seclusion in the Arctic wilderness

The family-run Kakslauttanen in northern Finland is far away from the hustle and bustle of everyday life. And – almost more importantly – far away from bright city lights that could obscure the view of the Northern Lights. Not far away is Urho Kekkonen National Park, one of Finland’s largest national parks. With its untouched fells, moors and forests, it is ideal for hiking and wildlife watching.

The thermo-glass igloos come in various sizes and designs: for two to four people, or attached to a cosy wooden house for up to six people. In typical Finnish fashion, saunas are also part of the amenities. The igloos can be booked throughout the entire Northern Lights season (August to the end of April).

Despite its remoteness, the hotel is easy to reach: Ivalo International Airport is 30 km away and has regular flights from Helsinki.

With its high altitude location, the Levin Iglut Golden Crown Resort offers beautiful views of the surrounding Arctic landscape and unobstructed views for viewing the Northern Lights. The focus is on comfort and luxury, with high-quality amenities and included services such as breakfast and a welcome drink. A wide range of activities in the surrounding area can also be booked directly via the website.

The family-run hotel now comprises a total of 27 glass igloos with different views for two to three people. These include spacious igloo suites, which also feature a private terrace and an outdoor jacuzzi.

Kittilä International Airport is only 15 km away.

The Arctic Lake Experience igloos are located in central Finland on the shores of Lake Oulujärvi. The compact igloos are located on their own beach area with direct views of the vast lake and beautiful landscape. They can float on the water or stand on the frozen water in winter. Here, too, there is the chance to see the Northern Lights, but even just a night close to nature in the floating lodge is a truly worthwhile experience.

There are opportunities for skiing and cycling in the vicinity of the accommodation, and equipment for both can be hired. The eco-friendly igloos are scattered along the shore of the lake. Breakfast in the igloo is included in the price, and dinner and sauna access can be booked additionally.

The town of Kajaani, which also has an airport, is 20 km away.
