Muuto: Modern Scandinavian furniture and home accessories

The name says it all: the Danish company Muuto – from the Finnish word ‘Muutos’, meaning upheaval or new perspective – is actively involved in giving furniture, decoration and other home accessories in the Scandinavian style new impetus and at the same time not forgetting the roots of Scandinavian design – the brand’s self-imposed and ambitious goal is to revive the golden era of classic Scandinavian design.

In doing so, Muuto not only relies on collaboration with selected, mostly young, Scandinavian designers, but also on innovation in all areas – whether in terms of design language, colour functions or materials. Muuto also pays a lot of attention to sustainability and environmental awareness. So if you are looking for timeless, modern furniture, lamps and home accessories in Scandinavian design with a touch of classicism, you are sure to find what you are looking for at Muuto.

Muuto: The future in view

The history of the Danish brand Muuto began in 2006, when the two designers Peter Bonnén and Kristian Byrge joined forces to pursue a common goal: To bring a breath of fresh air into the world of Scandinavian design without forgetting its classic roots. With the help of both renowned designers from Scandinavia and young, up-and-coming talents, Muuto has managed to establish itself in the ranks of Scandinavian design brands and now offers products in well-known design shops all over the world.

The brand focusses primarily on modernity and timelessness. The various designers are given a lot of freedom and possibilities, so that new and innovative creations are constantly emerging – whether it’s an unusual chair or a very special vase, Muuto products are anything but boring. The label also attaches great importance to sustainability – the furniture, lamps and co. are not only made from tried and tested materials such as solid wood or aluminium, but also from recycled items such as plastic bottles. This awareness of the environment shows once again what Muuto stands for: Versatility, innovation and aesthetics.

Muuto: Designer

Iskos-Berlin

Aleksej Iskos and Boris Berlin have been working together since the 1990s and continue to surprise with their gentle design language and unusual combinations of materials. Despite the apparent minimalism of their objects, for Iskos-Berlin, who opened their own design studio in Copenhagen in 2010, design is a kind of storytelling – and like any story, their creations should be clearly understandable and, above all, entertaining. Among other things, Iskos-Berlin designed the well-known Fiber Chair for Muuto.

Form Us With Love

The designer studio ‘Form Us With Love’ consists of the three Swedes Petrus Palmér, Jonas Petterson and John Löfgren. Since 2005, the trio has been creating innovative designs with passion and dedication, including the Unfold pendant lamps from Muuto. Taking the approach that everyone has the right to create something meaningful, the three Swedes combine traditional craftsmanship with practicality to constantly evolve and meet people’s growing and changing needs.

Cecilie Manz

Danish industrial designer Cecilie Manz studied in Copenhagen and Helsinki, where she was inspired by the Finnish design tradition and its international approach. However, Manz’s creations, which are produced in her design studio in Copenhagen, are not only inspired by Finland, but also by everyday situations – the functionality and usefulness of her products always take top priority. Manz has designed a wide range of furniture for Muuto, including shelving systems and tables.

Lars Tornøe

Lars Tornøe is a young Norwegian designer who is best known for his innovative and creative ‘The Dots’ collection. But it is not only thanks to the wall brackets that Tornøe has earned his place in the ranks of Scandinavian designers, he also works on other furniture and product lines. His creations have earned him numerous awards and he is working to renew and expand Scandinavian design.
