Marimekko: A Finnish design success story

The Finnish brand Marimekko has been causing a stir in the design world since 1951, making it one of the oldest lifestyle brands in the world. Textile designer Armi Ratia founded the company and laid the foundations for the success of the brand with a simple printed dress. Today, the brand has a large number of products in its range and no longer specialises solely in fashion, but has also taken the world of decoration by storm.

The focus here is primarily on bold and unusual colours and patterns, which ensure that Marimekko products have an incomparable style. But the expressive, striking black and white collections are also part of the wave of success – Armi Ratia’s aim was for the products to have a strong presence in everyday life. Marimekko, which translates as Marie’s dress, attaches great importance to sustainability and environmental friendliness.
